• The Plot: While gambling together, Himura Kenshin and Sanosuke Sagara discover that one of Sanosuke's friends has tragically died from an opium overdose. Shortly after, a mysterious woman named Megumi Takani bursts onto the scene. She is fleeing a group of dangerous armed men hired by a wealthy, corrupt industrialist named Kanryū Takeda. Megumi begs Kenshin and Sanosuke for protection, setting off a brand-new conflict that forces the heroes to cross paths with a highly lethal ninja group. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

• Significance: This episode marks the anime debut of Megumi Takani, whose medical knowledge and dark history with opium production drive the narrative forward for the next several episodes.

Since these were actually used in filming, there may be small scratches and fading of tracing lines over time.
