In the fifth episode of the Pokémon: Advanced series (Hoenn arc), titled "In the Knicker of Time!", Ash and his friends encounter a trainer named Nicholai the Knickerbocker while traveling toward Rustboro City.
Episode Summary
The "Shorts Kid": Nicholai is a unique trainer who wears knickers (short pants) because he believes they bring him closer to nature. He also wears costumes of the Pokémon he is currently using in battle to better understand them.
