Naruto Shippuden Episode 492 is titled "Cloud of Suspicion" (Japanese: 疑雲, Giun). It originally aired on February 2, 2017, and serves as Part 4 of the Shikamaru’s Story: A Cloud Drifting in the Silent Dark arc, adapting the light novels set after the Fourth Great Ninja War. 
Episode Overview
  • The Setup: Having rendered himself unconscious via his own shadow to avoid being brainwashed by Gengo, Shikamaru wakes up shackled in a prison cell. [1]
  • The Psychological Battle: To keep his mind sharp and stave off boredom, Shikamaru plays mental shogi matches against known masters in his head. [1, 2]
  • The Trap: Gengo tries to break Shikamaru's resolve and convince him to join his cause. He reveals his true manipulation method: utilizing a hypnotic flower fragrance alongside powerful speeches to bring out deep, painful memories from rogue ninja. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
  • The Betrayal: Shikamaru's captured allies, Sai, Ro, and Soku, appear before him entirely brainwashed under Gengo's complete control. Gengo leaves the turned Leaf shinobi behind to eliminate Shikamaru. [1, 2, 3]

Generally only 10-30 scripts of each episode exist. These aren't for public sale and occasionally get sneaked out or given at very selected conventions in Japan.
