Disappearance" (消失, Shōshitsu) is the 125th episode of Naruto: Shippuden. It serves as the gripping aftermath to the explosive battle between Sasuke Uchiha and Deidara, transitioning the narrative from direct combat into intense political maneuvering and massive plot revelations.
📝 Episode Summary
The episode deals entirely with the ripple effects of Deidara's ultimate self-detonation.
• Sasuke's Survival: While the Akatsuki initially believe both Sasuke and Tobi perished in the blast, Sasuke narrowly survives. Suigetsu realizes something is wrong when a snake summon scroll goes blank. He uses Sasuke's blood to summon Manda, Orochimaru's giant snake, revealing that Sasuke used Manda as a shield to escape into another dimension. Manda dies from the injuries, but Sasuke survives.
• The Search Party: The Leaf Village's Eight-Man Squad (including Naruto, Kakashi, and Kiba) witnesses the explosion. Kiba manages to lock onto Sasuke's faint, lingering scent, prompting the team to move out.
• Itachi's Grief: When Zetsu reports Sasuke's presumed death to the Akatsuki, Itachi stands outside alone in the rain. Kisame remarks that it looks like the sky is weeping for him, though Itachi subtly reveals his inner conviction that his younger brother is still alive.
• The Mastermind Behind Pain: In the Hidden Rain Village, Akatsuki's supposed leader, Pain, and his partner, Konan, meet secretly with the goofy masked member, Tobi. In a shocking twist, Tobi drops his childish persona, completely shifting his voice and demeanor. He commands Pain and Konan on equal terms, revealing that he is the true power directing the Akatsuki and claiming the identity of Madara Uchiha
