Fushigi Yûgi: Eikoden is a four-episode Original Video Animation (OVA) series released between December 2001 and June 2002. It serves as the third and final OVA sequel to the classic Fushigi Yûgi anime franchise, based on a light novel series written by Megumi Nishizaki and illustrated by original manga creator Yuu Watase. [1]
Storyline Overview
The plot takes place roughly three years after the events of the original storyline. Miaka Yuki and Taka Sukunami (the reincarnation of Tamahome) are now happily married, and Miaka is pregnant. [1, 2, 3]
The conflict begins with Mayo Sakaki, a 16-year-old high school girl who harbors a bitter, obsessive crush on Taka. Upon discovering The Universe of the Four Gods book in a park trash bin, Mayo finds that the legendary story remains incomplete. Out of despair and a desire to steal Taka for herself, she opens the book and is pulled into its world, becoming the new, false Priestess of Suzaku. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Core Conflict and Stakes
Mayo's actions trigger a dangerous chain of events across both realities:
- The Disappearing Baby: As Mayo manipulates reality inside the book to change the narrative, Miaka's unborn child magically vanishes from her womb. [1]
- Miaka's Coma: Miaka falls into a life-threatening coma in the real-world hospital, slowly fading away as the book's world alters. [1]
- The Reincarnation Mission: To fix the universe, Taka, Chichiri, and Tasuki must venture back into the dying country of Konan. They must locate the four dead Suzaku Warriors who have since been reborn as young children, reunite the group, and stop the dark forces manipulating Mayo. [1, 2]
Production and Streaming Details
- Episodes: 4 episodes (The Legend Unfolds, Desert Quest, Rebirth of the Shooting Stars, and The Advent of Suzaku).
Generally only 10-30 scripts each episode exist. These aren't for public sale and occasionally get sneaked out or given at very selected conventions in Japan, I'm keeping 1 for my own collection so get it while you can.
These were used by the voice actors in the studio in Japan. These are not copies or look alikes.
